How Buah Merah Became Known to the Global Community

Buah Merah (Pandanus conoideus, Tawi) is naturally and exclusively grown at higher mountain area, Baliem basin, Papua, Indonesia.

Papuan natives who immigrated in Papua 60,000 years ago have been utilizing Buah Merah as nutritional and functional foods until now.  

The entire profile of Buah Merah extract oil was reported by Dr. Toshiaki Nishigaki and Dr. Ingrid at PATPI conference( Bandung, 2007) and their book titled "Khasiat BUAH MERAH Sebuah Kajian di Jepang".

Buah Merah extract oil (SBM) is produced from a tiny quantity of meat which surrounds on a bullet like seed, but not from seeds.

This is one of its feature.

The other features of SBM are rich in animal-like lipids, vitamin E and carotenoids.

There are no such kind of oil from fruits in the world.

Dr. Nishigaki has found out very novel micronutrient, beta-Cryptoxanthin in SBM. SBM also contains alfa-carotene, beta-carotene and alfa-Cryptoxanthin.

The actions and efficacies of beta-Cryptoxanthin have been well-known from epidemiological clinical studies.

Most notable importance of beta-Cryptoxanthin is to reduce the risk of lung cancer, especially with heavy or fanatic smokers.

In 2011, one interesting study disclosed its chemo-preventive action against lung cancer using smoking animal model.

We also found SBM revealed the inhibition of cancer cell proliferation from human lung and stomach cancers in animal models.

SBM has been applied to persons with smokers, lung cancer, breast cancer, diabetes mellitus, lower body temperature, post-menopausal osteoporosis, liver dysfunction, constipation, higher blood pressure, skin problems, moles and son on. 

Buah Merah is endangering natural plant that is subjected to Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) based on Biodiversity Treaty between Indonesia Government and M&K Laboratories Inc.. Japan.

The Buah Merah Meeting in Tokyo 2011 was held at Micron Tokyo Head Office in May 17, 2011, to share current research data.
